It's already October and your students continue to put forth great effort.  Please feel free to contact me at the school email address if you have any questions.

OCTOBER LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Fifth Grade:  The students continue to work  to break the habit of reading the first sound and guessing the rest of the word.  This is a difficult habit to break, but I am seeing progress.  They are learning to encode words that they have been able to decode successfully. They are also learning to develop questions about sentences and stories that they have read in class.

Fourth Grade:  The fourth grade is learning to break words into syllables and read two syllable words. They are also practicing spelling two syllable words and answering questions about the sentences and stories that they are reading in class.  The students are also making inferences about what happened before and after in the stories and sentences based on the literal comprehension.

Third Grade:  The third grade students are making great progress. They have blended together sounds to read word lists, sentences and stories. They are now working on spelling with bonus letters (ask them about it; there are three) and reading longer stories with controlled vocabulary. They will soon be learning about the 'am' and 'an' sounds and adding the suffix s to words.
