Room 118 Homework Policy

In 3rd Grade, your child will have homework.

Homework will be a reinforcement of a skill introduced in class.
Homework, when assigned, will always include a math worksheet with practice examples pertaining to the day's lesson.
This homework should take your child no more than 20 - 30 minutes to complete.

Additionally, 20 minutes of independent reading will be assigned on a nightly basis.  This independent reading need not be continuous reading, but can be done in smaller increments that add up to the required time. This time also includes any shared-reading time when both you and your child co-read a story together.

There will be no homework (other than to read) on weekends, holidays, or over vacations unless a child has to complete make-up assignments.

Parents, please refrain from excessively helping or doing your child's homework for them. I prefer that my students struggle through an assignment and get it all wrong, rather than get everything right because you did it for them.  You may of course check their work and tell them if an answer is incorrect.  If your child struggles with their homework, please write me a note so I can help them in the morning.

If your child misses an assignment due to "life" getting in the way, no problem!  Just let me know and I'll help your child get the assignment done.  I WILL NOT accept "I forgot" as an excuse and neither should you!
